His Way

Background:

In the last days before His brutal crucifixion, agonizing death, glorious resurrection, and ascension back to Heaven, Jesus and His disciples gathered for the Feast of the Passover.  During supper, knowing that the appropriate time had come and in an act of pure love, Jesus rose to his feet, laid aside his outer garments, tied a towel around His waist and washed His disciples feet (John 13:1-11).  Afterwards, Jesus revealed that one of the disciples would betray Him (Judas) and another would deny Him (Peter).  Jesus  also gave His disciples a new commandment to love one another as evidence to others of their love and devotion to Him (John 13:34-35).

Jesus knew that the soon unfolding events would cause the disciples great doubt, confusion and uncertainty for their future.  Their world would be turned upside down. So he immediately assured them that, no matter how wicked and unsettling the circumstances, He would be with them saying: Let not your hearts be troubled.  [You] Believe in God; believe also in me (John 14:1).”  But Jesus did not stop there!  He continued:  I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6).”  Jesus assured them that His Way is The Way.

Reflection:

Life is complicated.  People have so many obstacles to overcome and decisions to make every day.  We live in a world filled with crime, greed, lies, violence,  deceit, hate, lust, pornography and all sorts of immorality.  The media, cable, streaming services and Hollywood continuously display the worst behaviors of our sin filled society through their regular programming and movies.  Our broken ways are on display 24×7 to our innocent children and treated as “normal” behavior, often depicting wrong as right and right as wrong.

Is it any wonder that so many are confused and have lost their way?  What is the answer?  The Bible teaches that our way is the wrong way!  Jesus teaches that His Way is The Way … His Way solves life’s problems … His Way pleases God … His Way leads to Eternal Life with God in Heaven.

Christian, just like the disciples, listen to the teaching of Jesus and do things His Way.  If you are not yet a Christian, I invite you to visit this page describing how you can Become a Christian and begin to do things His Way.
